General Conference

Doug's brother and Nephew came over to go to Priesthood session with him and his dad.
Then they came over for Pizza and to visit. It was a quick but FUN visit!

I love watching General Conference... If there is any doubt God knows you conference will let you know. :D

to DYE or not to DYE

So for a while now I have been struggling with whether to keep dying my hair or not. Turning 45 in Feb and seeing the gray hair made me feel older than I am. Sierra said just let it grow out naturally.. which I did for 6 months....But every time I looked in the mirror the white hairs weighed on my head. I learned that I do not need to dye my hair SO often but I do need to dye it, So with Easter coming and Sierra being home and having to teach on Easter Sunday I bit the bullet and dyed my hair. First I had to find a new color.. they discontinued my color... another clue it was a time for a change? My Mother-in-law gave me a coupon so I tried a new brand and a new color. Medium Chestnut brown. It looks a little red but better than washed out henna.
Well since I was making some changes I went ahead and snipped off about 2 inches of my dead ends. So here is the new do :D

Easter Weekend

Sierra came home Saturday afternoon and after doing some homework we dyed eggs.

Doug gets the 12 spoons for the eggs!

Sierra dying eggs. We put an egg in each color....

                                                           Our COLORFUL eggs!

Mom shows off her GREEN egg!

The Easter Bunny came and left a yellow shirt and tank top, the movie Life of PI and some sweets for Sierra
Doug got bubbles, a lego guy and a yellow bouncy ball and I got a teal shirt and glass beads to make my necklaces and earrings. I still need to make, Of course he left us PEEPS!!!

Part of what I did over Spring Break was prepare for my lesson on how the Atonement strengthens us which I taught in RS on Easter Sunday... I studied all week and again that morning and then I prayed the spirit would teach and he did! Thank goodness.  While it was nice to have the blessing of teaching I am glad it isn't my calling. I am also grateful for the things I learned while studying all week! My dental experience made the Atonement that much more real to me....

Sierra went back to school that afternoon. I miss her when she leaves....Especially when her visit is so short.

A lesson painfully learned again

So for about a month I have been treating tooth pain with IB Profin whenever my teeth would ache. I knew it was inevitable that I would have to deal with my 2 broken teeth but I could NOT stomach the PAIN or the COST and so I avoided it.

LET ME JUST SAY----- DO NOT TO THIS!!!! -----------
March 28th when Doug got home around 8:30 PM I was in severe pain and crying and Doug called his Dad and got his dentist's name and number and he arranged for him to look at me that night. We drove to his office and he met us there. I was swollen and sore and he gave me medication so that he could give me a root canal.
Let me just say that HE IS A WONDERFUL DENTIST and I trust him completely...after 4 shots .. he started a root canal and I FELT everything! It was my WORST nightmare ever!!! I screamed and cried!!! Dentists must have to be tenacious.. because he persisted to fix me, even though I was in horrible pain. He explained that I was in pain because I waited until I was inflamed to get help! I understood that but it still hurt. When I talked to him later. I explained because of my ANXIETY over dental work it requires pain to get me to go.

THEN it was almost 11 when Doug went to get my prescriptions filled.. .first he had to find an all night pharmacy and then he had to find 1 that had penicillian. It was 2:30 AM when I was able to take pain medication and antibiotics. At least I slept.

The Tuesday after  I went in to get x-rays...while waiting for the dentist to look at my tooth. He decided to have my teeth cleaned.. they are very smooth! She said I had nice clean teeth! He looked at my other tooth and he decided to do another root canal but this time I was not inflamed and so the pain medication worked and while I could feel the pressure of the drill I did not have any pain.

It took a week not to have to run to my IB Profin and pencilian.. but finally I feel no pain!!!

MORAL OF THE STORY>> See your dentist regularly!

My Spring Break

So since Sierra was back at school during my Spring Break I had everyday by myself. First day I slept in. After I cleaned the house I wanted to do something CRAFTY!!! So I got out my BEADS and I made a few necklaces.      I worked on them a little each day during the break. I made 3 necklaces - 1 blue, 1 green, and 1 purple.
This is the green necklace I worked on.

This was when I was working on the purple necklace. I did the purple and green in 1 day.

This pictures was when I was working on the blue 1, it took a few days. The purple and green necklaces are done and sitting on the right.

This was the FUN part of my break :D

A FUN family visit

Doug's sister Lori and her daughter Brooke spent Brooke's Spring Break visiting us here in Colorado..
They came over and played games. We played Dominoes, then SORRY and Grandma won and then Lori, Doug and I and Grandma and Brooke, played Boggle. Brooke won. It was a FUN evening!

Another SNOW storm

So 1 of the JOYS of living in Colorado is the weather...
This time we got MOST of the snow they promised us...

A busy Spring Break

Since she has a job Fridays from 7-3. She usually doesn't come home until Saturday morning.  Also this particular Friday Sierra had a double date with another couple and then she wanted to go with her friends to do a service project and then to the temple to do baptisms and then to a Stake Single Adult Activity. So she texted us Saturday to say she got home late and would meet us at church in the morning.

So long story short, she got into town and decided she needed gas. She stopped to get gas and locked her keys in the car. She had to walk home  about a mile and get the spare key and she called to inform us. Doug was about to leave when she texted me that she had got into her car and was on her way. (Adventures)...
A lesson about not getting gas on Sundays??? The spirit knew it was going to happen though. Because I NEVER take my phone to church... as I was leaving I saw my phone sitting there and thought. I should take my phone and thank goodness I did.

Sierra's Spring Break was the 17th - 25th.  Unfortunately I had to work but she was so BUSY it worked out for her to do all her errands while I worked and then we would spend the evenings together. That is when she wasn't babysitting but she was blessed with the opportunity a few times during her break. She went and sat in on a few High School classes and spoke to her Earth Science teacher about what a geologist does... she really likes ROCKS.. comes by it naturally I know.. but not just does it interest her she is really good at it and understands it. So she might decide to be a geologist. After a few days of visiting High School she decided you should never go back.... While it was nice to see everyone, she is so through with High School. Her friend, Kim was also home from college and just as busy but they managed to squeeze in a lunch date.

Normally she would stay through the whole weekend but we had been watching the weather and she decided to leave Friday night before the storm came in. So we met Grandma and Grandpa Allred for a lunch and then we drove home and she gathered her stuff and took off for school. We probably should have left a little earlier as she did have to drive part way in the blowing snow but she made it safe!

A NEW Furnace

So I guess with the change in Presidency in November there were some necessary upgrades forced upon home owners. My land lord and father-in-law said we needed a new 80% capacity furnace for our little house before the law changed. So for a few months Doug called around to find the best deal... after discussing it ... a company was selected and a date set. I am thankful to say that I had to work.
So Doug still waiting to hear for the call when he would get a 2nd interview... got to move our pantry out so they could work on the furnace.

So once Doug got everything moved out of the laundry room... he was just starting the next phase of his project... when he got a call from 1 of the 10000 of places he had submitted an application and they were in need of a Journeyman Plumber asap. So he went and talked to the guy and was told he had 2 days to prove himself.   He proved himself the first day and the next day asked him to bring his hire paperwork in. He started work officially March 11th 2013 YEAH!!!
                                                                   Our old furnace
Working on the NEW furnace March 15, 2013
So we forgot to take an after picture...
But it was BEAUTIFUL and works great!
